CAF Releases 2020 CHAN Qualifier Fixtures

The qualifier draws for the CHAN 2020 competition, to be held in Ethiopia, have been released by the Confederations of African Football, Caf.

There will be two rounds to be played in determining the 15 teams that will join hosts Walia Ibex next year. Defending champions Morocco will square it out with Algeria in the first round.

Two-time champions DRC will have to go past the winner of the match between Chad and the Central Africa Republic in the final round

Super Eagles face either Togo or Benin, with Ghana squaring it out with Burkina Faso.

Liberia will face rivals Senegal, Guinea-Bissau tackle Mali while Guinea got a bye to round one. Kenya will face Burundi, Tanzania tackle Sudan, Somalia face Rwanda and Uganda tackle South Sudan.

Forty-seven teams are engaged in the qualifiers of the sixth edition of the tournament designed exclusively for footballers playing in their domestic leagues.

The first round matches will be on the weekend of April 19-21 with the return legs set for May 10-12.

Games for the final round will be played on the weekend of September 20-22.

The first edition was held in 2009 in Cote d’Ivoire with DR Congo emerging as champions. The second edition held in 2011 in Sudan had Tunisia as winners while the third one was held in South Africa with Libya emerging champions whilst hosts Morocco won the fifth edition.

The quota for the various zones is as follows;

Northern Zone – 2 teams

Western A Zone – 2 teams

Western B Zone – 3 teams

Central Zone – 3 teams

Central-East Zone – 2 teams

Southern Zone – 3 teams
