CAF Receives Four Hosting Bids For Champions League Final

South Africa, Tunisia, Rwanda and Morocco have officially put bids to host this year’s African Champions League final.

South Africa, Tunisia, Rwanda and Morocco have officially put bids to host this year’s African Champions League final.

Only one of the four countries will host the one-off match after the two-leg system of home and away finals was discontinued.

Bidding was opened Tuesday last week with South Africa being the first to express interest. Morocco threw their hat in only after Morocco and Rwanda.

The Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) will now conduct inspection visits to each country next month. A final decision is expected to be made at a CAF executive committee meeting in Egypt’s capital city of Cairo in April.

The Africa Champions League final will be played on May 29, giving the host country limited time to prepare.

Last year, the second leg of the Champions League final between Wydad and Esperance at the Stade Olympique de Rades in Tunisia ended in dramatic fashion after the Wydad players refused to continue playing when the VAR system failed to work.
