CAF President Ahmad Discharged From Hospital

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) president Ahmad Ahmad has been discharged from hospital where he was treated after testing positive for coronavirus.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) president Ahmad Ahmad has been discharged from hospital where he was treated after testing positive for coronavirus.

Ahmad was admitted to a Salam International Hospital a fortnight ago, two days after his arrival in the Egyptian capital of Cairo on Wednesday, October 28.

“Now not contagious any more, and with minimal risk of complications, the President of the Confederation of African Football left the hospital to return to his home in Cairo (Egypt),” CAF said in a statement.

“Doctors have prescribed at least 20 days of convalescence, during which he will have to limit his efforts in order to fully recover his energy.

“He would also like to thank the work of its Vice-Presidents, as well as the General Secretary of the Confederation of African Football, who have carried out certain missions that the President was unable to accomplish at the time.”

Ahmad was elected in March 2017 after defeating long-serving president Issa Hayatou, who had been in office for 29 years.

He took over with a promise to modernize the confederation and make it more transparent but he is currently facing a ban from football after FIFA investigators found out that the Malagasy official has breached “various codes of conduct”.

The Malagasy-born 60-year-old is facing another challenge at the helm of the African football governing body as four candidates are expected to present their nomination for the post on Wednesday.

CAF is expected to communicate the names of the successful candidates to all the national associations on January 11 ahead of the vote in March.
