CAF Confirm Date For DR Congo’s Appeal Over Kanga Eligibility To Play For Gabon

The Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) Board of Appeals has set May 24 as the date when they will meet to discuss DR Congo’s appeal over Guelor Kanga eligibility to play for Gabon, Ducor Sports has learnt.

DR Congo have submitted an appeal claiming that Kanga is a Congolese-born Kiaku-Kiaku Kianga and isn’t eligible to represent the Gabonese national team.

Their complaint came after DR Congo finished in third place in 2022 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers Group D behind the Panthers and table-toppers The Gambia.

The DR Congo Football Association (FECOFA) in March held a crisis meeting and decided to challenge the right of Kanga to play for Gabon with the official protest filed in the last week of April.

A source at FECOFA says the federation it is also willing to take the case to the Court of Arbitration for Sports should the May 24 verdict not favour them.

Kanga, who started his football in Gabon, is reported to have moved to WestAfrican country under FECOFA license bearing the name Guelor Kiaku Kiaku Kiangana.

Kanga currently turns for plays his club football for Serbian club Red Star Belgrade and was part of the Panthers squad that contested the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations.

The 30-year-old has represented Gabon in six occasions four occasions in the recently concluded 2022 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

He has won 46 caps for Gabon since his debut nine years ago and has represented the Central African nation in two Africa Cup of Nations.
