Moroccan giants Wydad Casablanca marched to the quarterfinals following a 3-1 victory over Algeria’s USM Alger in a Casablanca on Friday.

Moroccan giants Wydad Casablanca marched to the quarterfinals following a 3-1 victory over Algeria’s USM Alger in a Casablanca on Friday.

First-half goals from Walid El Karti, Badi Aouk and Kasengu Kazadi ensured the hosts cruise to the knockout stages where they will join their Group C counterparts Mamelodi Sundowns.

Mohamed Meftah scored a consolation late in the second stanza for USM, in a loss that threw away qualification chances for the fourth placed Petro de Luanda, as the Angolans are on two points before their next match.

Wydad will now focus on the remaining fixture as they fight to finish on top of the group against Mamelodi Sundowns.

Meanwhile, TP Mazembe remained top of Group A despite dropping two points in the draw against Zamalek at Al Salam Stadium in Cairo.

The Ravens, who have already booked their place in the quarter-finals, will be fighting to remain top of the group, while the White Knights still remain in pole position to reach the knockout phase.

Angola’s Primeiro de Agosto and Zambia’s Zesco United will meet in the other group game on Saturday.

And should Primeiro de Agosto fail to beat Zesco away from home, Zamalek will secure passage to the last eight before meeting the Angolans in their final match, given their better head-to-head record over Zesco.
