BREAKING: Kanfory Bangoura Returns for Second Stint as Guinea Coach

The Guinea Football Federation has named Kanfory Lappe Bangoura as the new head coach of Syli Nationale for the second time.

The Guinea Football Federation has named Kanfory Lappe Bangoura as the new head coach of Syli Nationale for the second time.

Bangoura who was in charge between 2016 and 2018, replaces Belgian Paul Put, who was sacked earlier this month after Syli Nationale’s exit from 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.

“I am immensely happy to be back,” said the 52-year-old, in an interview shortly after his appointment.

Bangoura was in charge of the team at the 2018 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) in Morocco where the team was eliminated in the group stages.

Guillaume Soumah, who currently serves as the head coach of local outfit Wakrya FC, will be Guinea’s assistant coach.

He had also been on the shortlist to be coach alongside Gilmar Rinaldi, Marcel Desailly and Bernard Simondi.

Bangoura’s first competitive game is a Nations Cup qualifier against Mali in October.

During his first tenure, Guinea were unable to qualify for the 2017 finals in Gabon and also the 2018 World Cup.

Guinea will also play Mali and the winner of the preliminary round match between Liberia and Chad with the only top two teams in the group to progress to the finals in Cameroon.
