Breaking: Burkina Faso, Ghana Match Postponed

The U-20 Africa Cup of Nations match between Burkina Faso and Ghana, which was scheduled to be played at 19h30 on Sunday evening, was postponed to Monday.

The U-20 Africa Cup of Nations match between Burkina Faso and Ghana, which was scheduled to be played at 19h30 on Sunday evening, was postponed to Monday due to problems with lighting at the Stade de Maradi.

According to reports players from both teams were getting ready for a warm-up session but after it was discovered that there was a power failure, the players were ordered to go back to their dressing rooms until the problem had been solved.

Generators were in place to combat the problem which was a first thought to be because of load shedding.

It was later established that the lights failed due to a technical fault forcing the match commissioner to consult CAF’s top brass. It was decided that the game would be played on Monday at the same venue. Supporters who were already at the stadium will still use their match tickets on Monday.

Niger is currently experiencing hot weather during the day which forced the organizers to fix matches for the evening but with floodlight problems now popping up, the matches could be rescheduled for the afternoons.

The Total U-20 Africa Cup of Nations got underway on Saturday with host nation Niger sharing the spoils with South Africa and Nigeria beating Burundi 2-0.
