Belouizdad Look To Upset Heavyweights Wydad

CR Belouizdad will look to continue their remarkable run in the CAF Champions League when they host Wydad Casablanca in the first leg of a quarterfinal tie, set for the Stade du 5 Juliet in Algiers on Saturday, 16 April 2022,kick-off at 21h00 GMT.

Belouizdad finished second in their group and are playing in the quarter finals of the new African Champions League era for the first time ever.

Marcos Paqueta, the Belouizdad coach is hoping to ensure that the Algerian club reach the semi-finals for the first time.

Wydad Casablanca, two time African champions, topped Group D with relative comfort and wrapped up their pool phase by defeating Angola’s Petro du Luanda 5-1 in Casablanca.

The WAC come into the match with an impressive record as they have not lost a match since February 23 when they were defeated 2-0 by Hassania Agadir.

Coach Walid Regragui knows his team is favoured to overcome Belouizdad, but believes the Algerian side will be tough opponents.

“It’s a duel that will be difficult, but the advantage we have is that the return match will be played in Casablanca,” said Regragui.

Burundian match referee Pacifique Ndabihawenimana will be in charge of the match in Algiers. The return game is scheduled for Saturday 23 April at Stade Mohamed V in Casablanca.
