Battle of League leaders: Red-hot Uganda’s KCCA Ready to Scalp Congo’s Otoho

Uganda’s current domestic league leaders KCCA FC are in Brazzaville for their CAF Confederation Cup play-off first leg fixture against Congo’s championship headliners AS Otoho.

Uganda’s current domestic league leaders KCCA FC have been in Brazzaville since Friday ahead of tomorrow’s CAF Confederation Cup play-off first leg fixture against Congo’s championship headliners AS Otoho at the Stade Omnisport Marien Ngouabi-Owando

The Kasasiro Boys arrived early in order to get used to the hot and humid conditions in an encounter that the Uganda Cup champions must avoid defeat ahead of the return leg scheduled for January 20 in Kampala.

KCCA traveled without their key player Jackson Nunda who is nursing a hip injury sustained during his team’s 1-0 win over URA in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League on Tuesday afternoon.

However, KCCA assistant coach Morley Byekwaso wants his side to be fearless and positive against the Congolese outfit after two legs in order to reach the group stages where they last featured in 2017.

“We thank the Lord that we arrived safely in Congo and we are all very fine. The first training session is always key because it helps assess players’ ability to shake off the jet lag and also their focus before a game,” said Byekwaso in an interview with KCCA portal.”

“We have experience on the continent after playing the big boys in Al Ahly and Esperance last year and we cannot afford to be clumsy like it was at the start. The lads have to be fearless against AS Otoho and pick a good result in the  first leg,” he concluded.

KCCA, who have reached the group stages of Confederations Cup and Champions League in last two years, bundled out Tanzanian side Mtimbwa Sugar 5-1 on aggregate to secure the play-off slot

Federation of International Football Associations (FIFA) Referees from Benin will handle the fixture.
