Ashanti Gold Expelled From Ghana Premier League For Alleged Match Fixing

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has expelled Ashanti Gold from the 2021/2022 Ghana Premier League season after finding them responsible for what they referred to as match manipulation.

According to a statement seen by newsrooms, GFA also ordered the club be relegated to the Division Two league for the next season.

“AshantiGold will be demoted to the Division Two after being found Guilty of Match in their 2020/21 Ghana Premier League Matchday 34 game against Inter Allies FC,” the statement reads in part.

“The decision takes effect from the 2022/23 league season.”

The match in question is the final day of the 2020/2021 season’s tie played at the Len Clay Stadium where Ashanti Gold thrashed Inter Allies 7-0 in July last year.

Allies defender Hashim Musah netted two own goals to end the encounter before coming out to claim that  he deliberately sent the ball into his own net in order  to destroy the investment of bettors.

The win by the Miners had already raised eyebrows in the manner which the other five goals were scored ,forcing GFA to launch investigation onto the matter.
