Asante Kotoko Coach Will Not Change Playing Style Against Nkana

Asante Kotoko head coach Charles Akonnor insists that he will not change the club’s playing philosophy in his side’s clash with Nkana FC in the CAF Confederation Cup clash.

Asante Kotoko head coach Charles  Akonnor insists that he will not change the club’s playing philosophy in his side’s clash with Nkana FC in the CAF Confederation Cup clash at Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi.

The Porcupine Warriors lost 1-3 to the Zambian side last Sunday in the Group C encounter and will be hoping to turn the tables in their quest for a quarter-finals slot.

The 44-year old stated at the pre-match presser that his charges believe in his style and changing it will not be the best for his team.

“I have given the boys the belief to possess the ball all the time.”

“Sometimes it goes well and sometimes it doesn’t. But, I am not going to change the style of play because they believe in that style and they would do it very well,” said Akonnor.

Kotoko are bottom in Group C with only three points and must fight for a good outcome this afternoon to steer back in contention for one of the two slots reserved for the group.

“We are already successful in the CAF Confederation Cup because nobody thought we would be here three or four months ago,” he added.

“We would improve, and since I am here, I would do my best to improve this team.”

The Garden City lads will miss their skipper Amos Frimpong and the coach believes it may not affect his team much because he has a good replacement for his regular wing-back.

On their side, Nkana will be without their Ghanaian import, Richard Ocran, who received a red card during their first game.
