Angry Diafra “Quits Playing for Senegal”

Senegalese striker Diafra Sakho is believed to have hung up his boots over the poor minutes given to him in the Teranga Lions’ World Cup campaign.

It’s far from smooth in the Senegalese camp with striker Diafra Sakho now believed to have hung up his boots over the poor minutes given to him in the Teranga Lions’ World Cup campaign.

Sakho is said to be seething over his minimal involvement with the team and gaffer Aliou Cisse’s decision to put Mbaye Niang, Diao Balde Keita, Mame Biram Diouf and Chiekhou Ndoye ahead of him in the pecking order.

It’s reported that he fell out with the coach in the aftermath of the defeat to Colombia, accusing the dreadlocked manager of favouritism, a claim the latter is yet to respond to.

According to sources in Dakar, the relationship between player and coach is now tempestuous with the Rennes man believed to have in fact retired from international football with Senegal.

Diafa, it’s claimed, took the step after being encouraged by his mother.

The development comes as an unwanted source distraction to a side initially thought to be a harmonious unit.

The erstwhile West Ham United goal-assassin was over looked for the two crucial group games against Poland and in the draw against Japan.

The Senegalese team were due to touch down in Dakar Saturday but their flight got delayed in Moscow. Reports have it that Moussa Sow, Salif Sane, Mbaye Niang and Abdoulie Diallo have already left the Dakar-bound team for France.
