Algeria FA Elects Djahid Zefizef As President

Djahid Zefizef has been elected the new president of the Algeria Football Federation (FAF) after Thursday’s conference held in Algiers.

TSA website reports that Zefizef won the election against Abdelkahim Serrar by 52 to 34 votes in what many thought was an impossible task for the challenger.

“I am very glad that the Assembly has given me the mandate to lead football in this country for the next four years,” said Zefizef

Zefizef replaces Chraf Eddine Amara who resigned in April following Algeria national team’s failure to qualify for the 2022 World Cup finals in Qatar.

Amara and his committee resigned after Algeria lost 1-2 to Cameroon despite having won 1-0 away in the first leg of the World Cup final qualifying round to bow out of the race on an away goal rule.

He had spent less than an year as the head of FAF having succeeded Kheireddine Zetchi who did not contest for the position.
