Alex Song Unveiled At Arta Solar

Djibouti’s giants Arta Solar 7 on Wednesday officially unveiled former Cameroon international Alex Song.

Djibouti’s giants Arta Solar 7 on Wednesday officially unveiled former Cameroon international Alex Song.

The event took place at Djibouti Palace Kempinski where the club announced that the player will be presented to the fans on Thursday 12th November at Hassan Gouled Stadium.

The 33-year-old left Cameroon last Sunday after commissioning construction of a borehole in Essos District of Yaounde which after its completion will provide thousands of poor families with clean and reliable water supply.

Song, who has been a free agent since March when he was dismissed by Swiss club FC Sion for refusing a pay-cut amidst the Covid-19 pandemic, signed a two-year contract with the Djibouti moneybags.

Upon his unveiling, Song was given jersey number 17, the same number that he has been wearing at his former club Sion.

Song will lead Arta Solar in African Confederation Cup preliminary round fixture against Egyptian side Arab Contractors later this month in what marks a stark decline in the career of the technically gifted midfielder.

Song started his professional career with French side Bastia and rose to prominence at Arsenal where he made over 200 appearances.

He became a key part of Arsene Wenger’s squad during the 2008-09 season and his form in the Premier League persuaded Barca to make a move, signing him for a reported €17million.

It did not work out for Song at Camp Nou or West Ham, whom he represented for two years on loan until 2016.

Song left Barca for free in 2016 and joined Russia’s Rubin Kazan, but he made just 22 league appearances before making a move to Swiss top-flight league.
