Former France international Alain Giresse has been appointed as the new coach of Tunisia on an 18-month contract.

Former France international Alain Giresse has been appointed as the new coach of Tunisia on an 18-month contract.

It is the fourth national team job in Africa for the diminutive former French international, who worked previously with Gabon, Senegal, and Mali twice.

Tunisia have been without a head coach since Faouzi Benzarti was sacked at the end of October after only three months in charge.

Giresse will have two assistants, Mourad Okbi and Maher Kanzari who have been in charge of Tunisia’s matches since November 2018.

His first competitive game will be a Nations Cup qualifier against Eswatini at the end of March.

Tunisia are currently top of Group J of the qualifiers and have already made it to the next year continental championship.
