Al Merrikh Face Al Hilal In Sudanese Derby

Al Merrikh will look to revive their CAF Champions League Group A campaign when they host rivals Al Hilal Omdurman on Friday afternoon.

The Red Castle began their group phase with a disappointing goalless draw against Mamelodi Sundowns in Cairo last weekend.

The match is set to produce fireworks considering it will be the maiden clash between the two Sudanese football giants this year.

On the log, Al Merrikh currently sit at the bottom of Group A with one point but with one match in hand. They are separated by goal difference from their visitors.

Coach Lee Clark will want a victory to ensure they are the kings in Sudanese football and to also boost their knockout stage aspirations.

Shifting focus to the Blue Wave, Omdurman are also in search of a win to ensure they keep the pressure on log leaders, Mamelodi Sundowns.

They have one point from two matches and trail the leaders by three as they are yet to win in the group.

In their previous match, Joao Mota’s men drew 0-0 against Egyptian side Al Ahly at home, but will hope to stun their neighbours.

Cairo International Stadium is the venue for the Sudan derby on Friday and the kick-off is at 13h00 GMT.

The match will be played in Egypt because the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has banned El Merrikh home ground.
