Al Ahly Plot to Knockout Setif

Al Ahly hope the spirit from their semifinal first leg home win will see them knockout ES Setif and reach the 2021/2022 CAF Champions League final.

The Egyptian club beat its Algeria opponents 4-0 in the first leg on May 7 in Cairo to take a crucial led into the final leg this Sunday away in Algiers.

Al Ahly coach Pitso Mosimane believes his charges can pull it off especially after rallying to pick up the home win under difficult circumstances last Saturday night.

“ES Setif is a big team and we arrived to Algeria to win and score as the game is expected to be difficult,” Mosimane said in a pre-match interview.

“We know that ES Setif will make use of the home and fans attendance, but we will play to score and return to Cairo with a ticket to the final,” the South African coach added.

Mosimane’s counterpart at  Setif, coach Darko Novic, knows that his team will need to produce something special in the return leg if they are to emerge victorious on aggregate.

“Despite the first-leg defeat, the upcoming match will be difficult,” Novic said.

“We’ll try to stop Al Ahly from playing the way they prefer, and we’ll do our best to qualify for the final.

“We will do our best to come out of the game with a positive result.”

In the Champions League at home, Setif have won three, drawn one and lost one of their last five matches.

The last meeting between these two sides in Algeria was in 2018 where Setif won 2-1.
