Al Ahly Moroccan Striker Rubbishes Exit Talks

Walid Azaro has denied wanting out of five-time African club champions Ah Ahly Egypt.

Walid Azaro has denied wanting out of five-time African club champions Ah Ahly Egypt.

The Moroccan international is a much-discussed figure in the transfer market following his plummet down the pecking order.

Born in Rabat, Walid last netted for the Cairo giants two months ago, scoring two of the four goals the Egyptian Premier League champions managed in their thumping of Atlabara.

Two seasons ago, his fortunes had soared as he not only broke the record for the highest-scoring foreign player in Egypt but guided the club into retaining the domestic titles.

Interest from overseas clubs was rife with all the top sides in the French Ligue1 linked with the forward’s signature.

However, it was a Chinese Super League side who managed to activate his contract clause but fell short of matching the player’s personal terms consequently triggering a collapse of the deal.

The Red Devils were accused of persuading the player against switching on the promise his pay would be upped – a thing which later culminated into a dispute between the player and the club’s chairman.

Those moments coincided with a massive dip in form of the Moroccan stretching to this new campaign.

The Atlas Lions’ goal-getter is yet to score this new term, racking up a paltry return of twenty-five minutes amid reports an offer has been tabled by an unnamed European club in efforts to lure him away.

However, Walid has come out repudiating the suggestions, insisting his future remains at Al Ahly.

“I read it in the press and social media (that he wants to leave) but it’s completely wrong. I regret my lack of goals but it’s something I cannot explain,” he said in an Arabic interview on the club website Monday evening.

Azaro is currently valued in excess of €2.8M and has a deal running until June 2021.
