Al Ahly have launched an official bid to secure the 2020/2021 CAF Confederation Cup leading goal scorer from Botola side Raja Casablanca.
The Red Eagles are understood to have approached Sofiane Rahimi, one of the most sought-after players in Africa currently, with a huge offer as they seek to secure the services of the marksman.
Rahimi has scored six goals and provided five assists from 10 games, firing Raja to the semi-final stage of the second-tier continental competition, where they are set to face Egyptian rivals Pyramids.
According to EFM Radio Tunisia, Raja have rejected several offers from domestic rivals and from German and French clubs.
But this hasn’t deterred Al Ahly from launching an opening bid in the region of USD 5million in an attempt to land the services of the in-demand forward.
“Sofiane is aware of the interest from Al Ahly but has not been informed about offers from the club. Raja Casablanca needs to first accept [a bid] before allowing him to open talks with any club,” a North African source tells Ducor Sports.
The Egyptian giants have already done business with Raja, with their former captain Badr Banoun leaving for Cairo during the off-season in a $2m transfer.
Rahimi, who is comfortable as a winger or as a lone striker, has netted 12 goals and registered 13 assists in 31 games in all competitions this season.
