Al Ahly Coach: Simba Players Fell Over 15 Times

Al Ahly Coach Martin Lasarte has bemoaned SC Simba’s antics, claiming the Tanzanians went about theatrically falling on the ground 15 times.

Al Ahly Coach Martin Lasarte has bemoaned SC Simba’s antics, claiming the Tanzanians went about theatrically falling on the ground 15 times.

The East Africans narrowly swaggered over the Egyptians at the Benjamin Mpaka National stadium this week.

Meddie Kagare’s lone goal proved the difference-maker as Simba lightly avenged an initial 5-0 loss in the first-leg.

However, Lasarte isn’t happy about Simba’s time-wasting antics, adding the heat wasn’t favorable for the Red Devils who’re buoyed up of securing the CAF Champions League title this year.

“I played with three players in midfield to rest the players because of the heat.”

“Simba players also wasted a lot of time by falling on the ground over 15 times. This doesn’t respect the fair play rules. The heat and high humidity affected us especially in the second-half which exhausted the players,” he said in post-match remarks.

The former kings of African club football bit the dust to Esperance in the drama-filled reverse fixture in the finals of the previous edition.

Notwithstanding, they remain fired up of bringing an end to their five-year wait on the Total African Cup this term.

“Al Ahly is used to looking forward. Our goal is to win the two remaining games and qualify for the second round while reaching our goal, which is winning the tournament,” Uruguay-born Martin, barely two months in Ahly’s managerial seat, said.
