Akonnor Names Ghana Squad To Face Sudan

Head coach Charles Akonnor picked Ayew to skipper the Black Stars as he named the 23-man squad that will face the Falcons of Jediane twice in successive games, with the first being played at Cape Coast on March 27 and the other in Omdurman three days after.

Brentford FC winger Tariq Fosu from Brentford FC and Hapoel Ra’anana of Israel striker Eugene Ansah meanwhile, highlight players called up to the squad.

Red Star Belgrade striker Richmond Boakye Yiadom has also been included in the list, after sitting out the previous squads through injury.

On four local-based players were named in the squad that hits the camp in two weeks’ time. The quartet are Richard Attah (Hearts of Oak), Kwadwo Amoako (AshantiGold), Habib Mohammed (Asante Kotoko) and Yahaya Mohammed (Aduana Stars).

Ghana are currently top of Group C with six points after two round of matches that were played in the month of November last year.

Full-backs: Kwadwo Amoako (AshantiGold), Andy Yiadom (Reading, England), Gideon Mensah (Zulte Waregem, Belgium)

Centre-backs: Nicholas Opoku (Amiens, France), Joseph Aidoo (Celta Vigo, Spain), Kassim Nuhu (Fortuna Dusseldorf, Germany), Habib Mohammed (Asante Kotoko)

Midfield: Mubarak Wakaso (Jiangsu Suning, China), Alfred Duncan (Fiorentina, Italy), Iddrisu Baba (RCD Mallorca, Spain), Thomas Partey (Atletico Madrid, Spain), Mohammed Kudus (FC Nordsjaelland, Denmark)

Wingers: Christopher Antwi-Adjei (Paderborn, Germany), Tariq Fosu (Brentford FC, England), Samuel Owusu (Al Fayha FC, Saudi Arabia), Andre Ayew (Swansea City, England)

Forwards: Jordan Ayew (Crystal Palace, England), Richmond Boakye Yiadom (Red Star Belgrade, Serbia), Eugene Ansah (Hapoel Ra’anana, Israel), Yahaya Mohammed (Aduana Stars)
