African Teams Currently Chasing Invincible Seasons for 2018-19

Ducor Sports takes a look at the football teams chasing for an invincible season across the African continent.

Various leagues across the African continent have reached the halfway mark with some teams currently chasing an invincible season and could end the league season unbeaten. Ducor Sports brings a roundup of those teams that remain unbeaten since the start of the 2018/2019 league season.

Mukura – Rwanda National League

The 2018–19 Rwanda Premier League which is the 42nd season of the top-tier football league in Rwanda, started on October 19, 2018, with 13 games so far being played.

Mukura Victory Sports et Loisirs Football Club, commonly known as Mukura, remain the only unbeaten side in the league after 10 league games. Mukura kicked off the season in a spectacular style with four successive wins, before their winning streak was halted by AS Kigali in a goalless draw on November 6, at the Stade Huye, the home ground of Mukura.

They later bounced back to winning ways after a 1-0 victory over Muhanga and have so far won eight out of 10 league games. The 2018 Rwandan Cup winners are now seated third on the league table with 26 points, keeping seven clean sheets and conceding three goals.

They will return to action tomorrow against Gicumbi and will be looking to continue their unbeaten run.

CA Bizertin and CS Sfaxien – Tunisia Ligue 1

In the Tunisian Ligue 1, CA Bizertin and CS Sfaxien that are in the third and second positions on the league table respectively, are the two unbeaten sides in Tunisia Ligue 1.

CA Bizertin on Saturday extended their unbeaten run to 12 games in the ongoing league season following their 1-1 draw against Metlaoui. Bizertin’s unbeaten run could have ended on Saturday after Metlaoui took the lead in the 41st minute, but it was Seddik Majeri that came to the rescue of his team after slotting home the equalizer in the 83rd minute.

Bizertin are third on the log after winning seven games and drawing five out of 12 games. A huge task lies ahead of them in their next fixture when they host league leaders ES Tunis, who are three points ahead of them.

On the other hand, CS Sfaxien find themselves two points ahead of their unbeaten counterparts after securing eight wins, one win ahead of Bizertin, in 12 games. Both teams started the season by locking horns in their opening match that ended 1-1.

Mamelodi Sundowns – SA premier league

The Brazilians quest to finish the season as the invincible side in the Premier Soccer League (PSL) was on Wednesday, January 16, boosted by a 1-0 triumph over Maritzburg United at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium. Hlompho Kekana’s lone goal was the ultimate decider to seal Sundowns seventh win out of 14 unbeaten games. The Brazilians are placed in the third position on the log with 28 points and will face off against Highlands Park.

Vipers – Uganda Premier League

With two outstanding games left to be played, Vipers have gone 13 games unbeaten in the Uganda Premier League, winning eight and drawing five. Similar to Mukura in the Rwandan Premier League, Vipers kicked off the season with four successive wins, before a 2-2 draw against Jinja SSS.

Yanga – Tanzania Premier League

After finishing last season in the third position, Tanzania Premier League record winners (27 premier league titles), Young African Sports Club, known as Yanga, remain the only unbeaten side sitting atop of their domestic league.

Yanga are 19 games away from collecting their 28th league title. It has been a tremendous season for the “internationals” so far with 7 seven wins and two draws out of 19 games, winning their last nine games in a row.
