AFCON 2021: Guinea Coach Diawara Names Provisional Squad

Newly appointed Guinea national team head coach Kaba Diawara on Monday named his first-ever Syli Nationale squad for Total Africa Cup of Nations Cameroon 2021.

Diawara named a provisional squad of 27-players maintaining a huge chunk of the squad that helped the Syli Nationale qualify for the continental football showcase.

The squad will be captained by Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita and strike force will be led by  Belgian –based Sory Kaba and Kuwait-based Seydouba Soumah.

The former Guinea international has also called up FC Sochaux-Montbéliard defender Florient Pogba as well as Amadou Diawara of Roma, Ibrahima Traore formerly of  Borussia Monchengladbach and Toulouse defender Issiaga Sylla.

Unlike previous editions, teams are allowed 28 players per squad instead of 23, meaning that the coach might add another player for the  tournament.

Guinea’s first game in the competition will be against Malawi on January 11, before they take on the Lions of Teranga four days later.

The West Africans’ final Group B match will be against Zimbabwe on 18 January.
