CAF Reschedules Two African Champions League Matches

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has confirmed the dates and venues of two rescheduled African Champions League group stage matches.

One of the matches will see Kaizer Chiefs travelling to Burkina Faso to face Wydad Casablanca of Morocco on February 28, while the other will see Mamelodi Sundowns play CR Belouizdad of Algeria in Tanzania.

Both matches will take taking place in neutral venues after Chiefs and Sundowns failed to secure travel visas to travel to North African countries due to the new Covid-19 variant in South Africa.

The August 4 Stadium in Ouagadougou will host the battle between Chiefs and Wydad with Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam welcoming Belouizdad against Sundowns.

Both Tanzania and Bukina Faso have sent approval letter to CAF to host the two 2020-21 African Champions League matches.

The Amakhosi were initially supposed to face Wydad on 13 February whereas the Brazilians were play their second group stages match in Algiers on Tuesday 23 February.

Chiefs had fulfilled all the requirements needed for their travel, including all Covid-19 protocols requirements for their trip, only to be told that they will not enter Morocco.

Sundowns also experienced similar situation after the Algerian FA requested a postponement due to further medical restrictions in Algeria. The South Africa Premier Soccer League champions were preparing for departure to Algeria.
