Ugandan Defender Mustafa Kizza Joins MLS Side Montreal Impact

Uganda international Mustafa Kizza has signed for Major League Soccer (MLS) side Montreal Impact on a long-term contract.

The 20-year-old will officially join the club when the Secondary Transfer Window opens in August from Ugandan Premier League side KCCA FC.

“The Montreal Impact announced on Monday the acquisition of Uganda international full-back Mustafa Kizza from KCCA FC, in the Uganda Premier League, for two years plus three option years. The deal will start on August 12,” the club said in a statement on their website.

“Kizza will remain with his club until December, on loan from the Impact, because of the current Covid-19 situation, so he will not be taking an international spot on the roster. Montreal keeps the option to call him back if the situation improves.”

The left-back has previously been linked with a move to Moroccan club Hassania Agadir but KCCA were reported to have blocked the move by asking much for the player.

“We are really happy to acquire one of the best young players from Uganda,” said the Montreal Impact sporting director Olivier Renard.

“Mustafa Kizza is a modern attacking left-back with great crossing abilities and huge potential. He is good on free-kicks and his height will also help on set pieces.”

Kizza was promoted from KCCA junior ranks in 2017. In the recently concluded Ugandan Premier League season, he played 19 games, scoring five goals and providing 12 assists.

He also started in nine CAF Champions League games with his club in 2019 and 2020, recording four goals and four assists.

He was part of 34-man Uganda provisional squad that was called to prepare for the postponed 2021 African Nations Championship under coach Johnny Mckinstry.
