Ex-Djoliba AC Midfielder Bourama Doumbia Shot In Bamako Protests

Former Djoliba AC midfielder Bourama Doumbia suffered a minor gunshot wound during confrontations between anti-government protestors and police in Bamako on Thursday.

The 22-year-old was shot outside a mosque located at the city south’s side where protesters had gathered, calling for the resignation of President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita.

According to his former club, the Malian international is out of danger and has been released from the hospital, but he lost his little brother Sidi Ben Doumbia in the confrontations.

“Our former player Bourama Doumbia says he’s lost his little brother during the FORSAT attack in front of the Imam Dicko mosque. He himself was hit in the thigh. Our sincere condolences to him and his family and speedy recovery to him,” reads a statement by Djoliba AC.

Malian FA boss Mamoutou Toure also confirmed the incident saying the midfielder is in stable condition and is receiving treatment.

“I have just spoken with Bourama Doumbia, the Malian U-23 international player who was injured on Saturday. He is doing better,” Toure said.

“I take this opportunity to express my solidarity with him and wish him a speedy recovery. I take this opportunity to bow in memory of the dead compatriots and I wish speedy recovery to the injured.”

Doumbia was part of the Mali squad at the 2019 U-23 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.
