Ivory Coast Set To Dump Ibrahim Camara

Ivorian Football Federation (FIF) will terminate the contract with Ibrahim Camara as the national team head coach of Ivory Coast in the next 48 hours, according to reports.

The FIF president Sidy Diallo has travelled to Yamoussoukro to negotiate with Camara’s lawyers over the termination of the contract, with the federation expected to announce his departure following a board meeting on Friday afternoon.

Camara took over from Marc Wilmots in July 2018 and led the Elephants to the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt, where they crashed out in the quarterfinals.

According to information gathered from an inside source, the federation had taken the decision due to what he terms as indiscipline, though the source failed to divulge details as to what exactly the coach did to warrant the sack.

“There is no way to continue with Camara. He failed to meet our expectations; that’s why we want to part company with him,” the source tells Ducor Sports.

However, Ducor Sports understands the coach fell out due to his arrogance to his bosses and could not listen to anyone on any matter concerning the upcoming 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

It is alleged that Camara abused FIF vice-president Sory Diabate and former FIF president special advisor Djedje Benjamin in a previous meeting that was held on Thursday night.

There are a few other options to replace Camara and the Ivorian federation is in talks with them.

Under Camara, the Elephants are third in Group K of the qualifying matches for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, with three points, four points adrift of leaders Madagascar.
