Serbian Coach Micho Arrives To Take Over Chipolopolo Job

Serbian coach Milutin ‘Micho” Sredojević has arrived in Zambia to take up his new coaching role of the national team.

The former Uganda national team head coach landed at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport on Tuesday and will be unveiled in the next 48 hours.

“We are in the process of unveiling the coach,” a Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) official, who did not want to be named, told Ducor Sports.

The 50-year-old coach will replace Sven Vandenbroeck who was shown the door last year following Chipolopolo’s failure to qualify for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.

Micho recently coached Egyptian Premier League side Zamalek, and also had stints at South Africa Premier League with Orlando Pirates.

The former FK Zorka Subotica and FK Pionir Subotic defensive midfielder has also coached other teams in Africa, which includes Uganda’s SC Villa, Sudan’s Al Hilal and Ethiopia’s St George.

Micho was also in charge of Rwanda national team in November 2011 where he replaced Ghanaian Sellas Tetteh.

His biggest achievement with Africa was qualifying Uganda to the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations; their first time in 38 years.

The Chipolopolo have a busy schedule ahead starting with back to back 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Botswana in March.

Micho is also expected to take Zambia through the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers where the Southern African country was drawn in Group B alongside Tunisia, Mauritania and Equatorial Guinea.
