EXCLUSIVE: Nigeria’s Ugbo Departs Standard Liege to Seal Braga Loan Exit

Uche Agbo has temporary left parent club and erstwhile Belgian champions Standard Liege to begin life at Sporting Braga.

The Nigeria international was unable to break into Standard Liege starting line following the end of his loan stay at Rayo Vallecano where his time there was limited to just six appearances in Spain’s La Liga.

Compounding his woes, Standard Liege’s gaffer Michel Preud’Homme did not find him suitable in his plans for the season leading to his sanction of yet another loan deal elsewhere for the combative defensive midfielder.

Portuguese Primera Liga outfit Sporting Braga made a swoop for his services but on an initial loan deal with an option of triggering a release clause in the contract to secure the Nigerian’s services permanently.

Agbo’s career has been journey-manlike with five loan spells since turning professional in the summer of 2014 having transferred to Udinese Calcio from domestic side Enyimba.

English premier League’s Watford had purchased the 23-year-old in 2016 then shipped him out on loan to Granada where his career took off prior to Standard Liege snapping him up.

During that term, he accumulated a combined thirty-five appearances and thirty-one in the ensuing year, courting overtures from Rayo Vallecano.

However, the Spaniards opted against signing the playmaker permanently before Braga were offered the Kano City-born.

The deal, finalised on transfer deadline day, brought an abrupt end to speculation surrounding the starlet’s future after he passed a medical.

The move reunites him with former coach Sa Pinto under whose tutelage he hopes to re-launch his career.
