Ugandan Defender Blocked from Leaving Zambia over Unpaid Salaries

Yakubu Rama is being held back in Zambia and prevented from returning to Uganda by his club, Lusaka Dynamos.

Speaking to Ducor Sports from Lusaka on Saturday, Rama said that The Elite have refused to surrender his passport for him to travel back to Uganda to visit his family.

This followed a formal complaint to Dynamos from the player’s handlers demanding for his eight months unpaid salaries amounting to $18,000, considered a serious breach of his contract.

“I am being held back here in Zambia against my will as my club has refused to give me back my passport to travel back to Uganda to be with my family.”

“I have been asking the management of the club for the document since last month. I want to go home,” Rama informed Ducor Sports.

In the latest development, Dynamos admits that they have lost Rama’s passport and are doing everything possible to have it replaced.

This is according to a letter the club management addressed to the Regional Immigration Officer in Lusaka, where the club has stated that it got lost when the club was shifting its base.

“During a physical relocation of our offices last month, we had unfortunately misplaced Mr. Yakubu’s passport and it is now lost,” reads part of the letter written by the club.

“There is a need for Mr. Yakubu to travel back to Uganda where he can re-apply for the lost passport, however, he will require a travel document to make this possible.”

The former Bright Stars FC and AFC Leopards defender has a year left on his contract with the 2008 BP Top 8 Cup champions.
