Al Ahly Appeal Striker Azaro’s Two Game Ban

Egypt’s defending Premier League champions Al Ahly have filed an appeal seeking the suspension of striker Walid Azaro to be overturned.

The 23-year-old incurred CAF’s wrath following his antics in the recent Total CAF Champions League first-leg final, considered a gross violation by the competition’s ethics committee.

Walid, North Africa’s most expensive domestic-based striker, valued in excess of €2m, evoked the anger of CAF after he tore the neck of his jersey.

The Al Ahly attacker got fouled by an Esperance du Tunis player but went ahead to deliberately tear up the neck of his jersey in an attempt to lure the unsuspecting Algerian referee Abid Charif to send off his marker.

Charif, who later in the game became subject of ridicule for his verdicts, merely gave a foul while allowing Azro to continue for the rest of the game.

Hours following this, CAF decided to take up disciplinary measures against the Moroccan international, suspending the last season Egyptian Premier League top scorer for two games along with a $20,000 fine.

However, Ahly has lodged in an appeal and want the ban and fine rescinded in time as they eye using the forward for the second-leg billed for this Friday.

In the dispatch addressed to CAF’s disciplinary body, the Red Devils consider the punishment handed to Walid high-handed, insisting there was no need for it given they’ve already disciplined the aforementioned player.
