The Gambian Coach with a Knack for Winning Across Borders

Gambian coach Tapha Manneh is making all the right headlines in the Liberia Football Association First Division. He reached a phenomenal milestone after setting a new unbeaten record of 20 league games and 25 in all competitions with LISCR FC, in the ongoing league season.

Manneh broke Keitrace FC coach Gabriel Johns’ unbeaten record of 19 games when he was with LPRC Oilers. The Gambian made the milestone after his side drew 2-2 draw with LPRC Oilers last Tuesday, at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium.

In his first match in charge of LISCR on December 3, 2016, the 52-year-old secured his first point after a 1-1 draw against Keitrace FC.

Following the draw, the former Gambia U-20 coach expressing some concern explained that he was faced with some challenges due to the physical fitness of his players.

Nevertheless, the CAF “B” License holder managed to secure 19 points after he won four and drew seven matches that placed the team in the fourth position at the end of the first half of the season.

Manneh said.

Manneh whose favorite trophy is also his major target for the season has excelled exemplary by guiding the Shipping Boys to the semifinal of the domestic cup after a dramatic 3-2 aggregate win over rivals FC Fassel.

Signed on a three-year deal, the former Gamtel FC head coach who appeared in six FA Cup finals and won four is close to adding another FA Cup to his archives.

The team seats second on the league table with 38 points after nine wins and eleven draws from 20 league matches and has so far scored 12 goals and conceded 6 in the FA Cup.

While in Gambia, he won eight major trophies including four FA Cups, three Super Cups and one National league title – all as head coach of Gamtel FC.

He also won the Best Coach of the Year Award for the 2014/2015 season after he won the national league, the Super Cup, and runner up in the FA Cup.
