Ideas are the brain-child of a nation, it is those seemingly little concepts that foster the development of a nation and act as guidelines to run a state. It is from ideas that we get things like a constitution which acts as the rule of law for any country.
If a country needs to become a state, there are certain things that need to be done and those things cannot come without ideas or a vision.
Just like Sudan to have any chance of stability and development, ideas have to be embraced over the old system of loyalty (loyalty means, “I have to accept my master, you have to serve your master even if he is wrong”).
For instance, the army. Saying that the National army cannot function properly and fight for the true causes of the country because they are constantly thinking about being loyal to those who gave them that power and never going against their orders.
If this is implemented, Sudan will go to the next important step: providing clean water for everybody and then food security, ensuring every citizen has very good seed. And if these three can be implemented, then there will be humanity, unlike the vice versa.
For Every Problem Is A Solution
“Every problem has a solution. Sometimes it just takes a long time to find the solution- even if it’s right in front of your nose.”- Lemony Snicket.
Though various challenges are faced by this nation, there is a belief that there is a way to solve them and put the country on the right path once again.
The ongoing war
The major challenge Sudan is facing is the ongoing war and therefore peace has to come first. There is some hope for peace considering that on 12th November 2019, a government and security arrangement is slated to be put in place.
And after the peace treaty is implemented, the next step will be to form a national army which is void of loyalists which can serve the country. Later on, elections can eventually take place.
This is evident when people also are divided over loyalty. For instance, if my leader is from my tribe, I have to follow without even knowing his or her interests.
And to address this, the way forward is for the people to look for the person talking about ideology, about uniting North and South Sudan through that vision and not minding about whether he is coming from a minority group or even minding about things like his religion.
If people reach that stage then one of the problems of Sudan will have come to an end.
Youth involvement and representation in the politics
The lack of youth involvement and representation in the politics of Sudan is also another hindrance. The youth are the backbone of any country, their vibrant energy and input is very crucial to development. They are usually tasked with building a nation, but in South Sudan, young people do not see themselves as such because the old people want to stay in power. Young people don’t seem to have any choice. For instance in South Sudan, some will follow Kiir, others Machar and some are forced to be refugees. When Sudan gets peace, young people will also get a chance to be involved in building the nation.
Ban of the media fraternity
The constant restrictions and bans placed on the media fraternity is also another challenge. If any country fights the media, this may mean that those leaders are doing bad. When there is no freedom of expression, that means the country is a failure.
What Could Be the Vision for Sudan?
The only way this can be achieved is through dialogue. South Sudanese should have a dialogue amongst ourselves and through this accept that any crisis in the country must be solved peacefully.
Another thing is the power of democracy and hope that once a peaceful resolution has been agreed upon among the different political parties, elections should determine who is to rule.
However, as shared by most people, the new president and government should preferably comprise people with no prior political background and preferably a technocrat.
Otherwise, Sudan should be managed by technocrats and maybe after about 7 years, the political parties can go ahead. If this is not done then the mess will continue. Crisis and more destruction will still exist.
