Davido, 26-year-old hitmaker whose real name is David Adedeji Adeleke, has just emerged as the most viewed Nigerian artist on YouTube.
The Afro-pop star had just released the visuals to his new track featuring American music superstar Chris Brown dubbed ‘Blow My Mind’.
The song now has over 1.5 million views on YouTube, since its release on Tuesday, July 30th 2019.
The artist celebrated the feat on twitter on 29th July, after the news was shared by Twitter page (@chartdata_naija), “@iam_Davido has surpassed 500 million streams on YouTube becoming the most viewed Nigerian Artist on the platform.”
Davido has most views across several videos including Fall, If, Fia, Assurance.
Last year, Yemi Alade’s hit song Johnny became the first Nigerian music video to reach 100 million views on YouTube. The race is still on though. Last month, Alade emerged as the first female Nigerian artist to reach a million subscribers.
“It’s a great time for Africa, it’s a great time for African music,” Adedeji told OkayAfrica in an interview in late July.
“The whole culture as a whole. Growing up, it wasn’t cool to be from Africa, but now everyone wants to be involved in the culture,” the artist added.
It is noted that now, the Aye musician races with Yemi Alade and Tekno, all Nigerians.
As the head of his label, Dmw, Davido’s YouTube page also shares the tracks and videos of his label mates: Dremo, Mayorkun and Peruzzi.
