ZESCO Wins Zambian Super League

Zambia Electricity Supply Corporation United Football Club (ZESCO) secured its sixth Super League title. On a frenzy final league game day, ZESCO needed a win to beat Zanaco to the title and the Ndola-based outfit did just that beating Mufulira Wanderers 3-2.

Wanderers gave it a tough fight but ZESCO prevailed, in the end, to win its first Super League trophy since 2015. The power-supplying side first scooped the league’s staked prize in 2007, replicating the feat the following year and in 2010, 2014, 2015 before this latest one.

Title rivals and eventual runners-up Zanaco whacked Forest Rangers 2-0 but the result mattered less as they finished off the campaign a point behind ZESCO. The feat means ZESCO will be the side to represent the landlocked Southern African country in the Total CAF Champions League qualifiers next season.

League Day 38 featured ten games –all the twenty teams in the championship –as six sides got demoted to Division One. The Relegated sides are Nchanga Rangers, Nakambala Leopards, Mufulira Wanderers, Konkola Blades, Real Nakonde and City of Lusaka who only won promotion to the top tier last term.
