Egyptians Raneem El Welily and Mohamed ElShorbagy Made History at the 2017 PSA World Champions, the Most Prestigious of Titles.

Egyptians Raneem El Welily and Mohamed El Shorbagy made history after lifting the most prestigious title each, for the first time. The duo was crowned the 2017 AJ Bell PSAWorld Champions at Manchester Central Convention Complex after seeing off compatriots, Marwan ElShorbagy (his brother) and Nour El Sherbini.

Mohamed and Marwan ElShorbagy became the first brothers ever to contest a PSA World Championship Final and the sibling showdown was a nail-biting one as it ended 3-2: [11-5, 9-11, 11-7, 9-11, 11-6] in favor of Mohamed.

“It feels great, it’s a dream come true,” said ElShorbagy.

At 11-9 on the fourth it was a huge blow, then I was down in the fifth and I had to fight and fight, he gave it everything. I remember the 2012 match with Ramy, I know how he felt now. There was so much pressure on me, like Ramy in 2012, and in these matches, you just want to win the last point.”

It was my time today, with this title you have to be patient and it will come for him. I’ve won everything in the sport now, but I still have much more to achieve and more titles to win,”[/perfectpullquote]

he added.

World No.2 Raneem El Welily secured a 3-1 [3-11, 12-10, 11-7, 11-5] victory against world No.1 Nour El Sherbini to seal her maiden PSA World Championship title.

“I adjusted my tactics in the second,” said El Welily. “I was playing more accurate, with more pace and strength and that made a huge difference. I could get in front of her and do what I had to do to get in front of her.”

[perfectpullquote align=”full” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””]“She was under more pressure than me today. I felt so different today compared to the last Worlds final. That one was a nightmare – today I was so much more relaxed. I hope I can keep the same attitude for the remainder of the season. From this moment to the next event I don’t know what will happen, but I know I don’t want to stop with just this one success.”[/perfectpullquote]

She added.
